What Happens After Your AI Agent Launches

A lot of pitches make launch day sound like the finish line. It isn't. The first 60 days after an agent goes live are usually where you learn the most about whether it actually works — and that only happens if someone's paying attention during that window, not just on the day it ships.

Real traffic finds the edge cases

However careful the testing was before launch, real customers ask things nobody thought to test for. A lead qualification agent might handle 95% of submissions perfectly and completely misread the other 5% because of a formatting quirk nobody anticipated. That's normal. The question is whether anyone notices when it happens, or whether it just quietly gets things wrong for a month.

What good monitoring actually looks like

It doesn't need to be complicated. At minimum, someone should be able to see what the agent did, spot-check a sample of its decisions each week, and get notified if something breaks outright — a connection failing, an unusual spike in a specific kind of outcome. If nobody can answer “how is it doing this week” without digging through raw logs, that's a gap worth closing before launch, not after.

The tools underneath it will change

The CRM you connected to will roll out a new version. The AI provider will update their model. A field name in your helpdesk will get renamed by someone who didn't know an agent depended on it. None of this is anyone's fault — it's just what happens to any piece of software that stays in use. The question is whether someone's watching for it, or whether you find out when the agent stops working.

What to ask before you launch

Ask whoever built it: what does support look like after launch, and for how long? Is monitoring included, or is that a separate conversation? Who gets notified if something breaks, and how fast? A team that's actually run agents in production will have clear answers. A team that's only ever shipped demos usually hasn't thought about this part yet.
